In Florence some palaces which belonged to rich families, still have these wine windows, which are unique to Florentine architecture.
They date back to the 17th century, when they were used for sale of wine directly on the street.
Wealthy families also used to leave a glass of red wine and some food for poor persons .
One of the hidden wine windows is in via delle Belle Donne and another inside the Guadagni Palace in Santo Spirito square!
